Hospitality Worker Survey

Just Economics and Asheville Food and Beverage United teamed up to work with researchers with the UNC Asheville – UNC Gillings Master of Public Health program to conduct a study focused on the impacts of employment practices and policy on hospitality industry worker health and well-being.  The study utilized community researchers to conduct a survey and listening sessions with Asheville area workers in the hospitality industry and the results are highlighted in the report, “High Stakes, Low Reward: 2024 Hospitality Worker Survey and Discussion Report” .

This report delves deep into the impacts (or lack thereof) of living wages, paid sick days, paid family leave, and fair scheduling on the health and well-being of hospitality industry workers]. The report offers insights into the local service and hospitality industry, and how workers are impacted when certain policies are in place. The report findings are drawn from survey responses and discussion groups conducted in the fall of 2023 and early 2024, with input and support from community researchers. Participants were a non-representative subset of hospitality workers in the area.
