The Living Wage Coalition of Transylvania County is a coalition working as a part of Just Economics to promote living wages in Brevard and the surrounding areas.
The LWCTC meets the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brevard from 10am -noon.
The LWCTC promotes living wages and a just economy by advocating for responsible public policy, participating in the voluntary living wage employer certification program, and by educating the community about issues of economic justice through activities like the Western North Carolina Poverty Simulation. We also work to involve leaders from low-income communities through the Voices for Economic Justice program.
The Living Wage Coalition of Transylvania County is an affiliate group of Just Economics (JE). JE has a poverty simulation designed to help people understand the challenges of living on a low income in Transylvania County. It is a two hour experiential learning exercise for groups of 20-45 people. For more information or to schedule a poverty simulation for your group, contact Vicki Meath at 828-505-7466
The 2012 Voices for Economic Justice class created a film about living on a low-income in Brevard. The film is a powerful display of what it is like to live on a low-income. The film is available for viewing upon request. Watch the trailer below.
